Figuring out event projects...

Is not easy, nor fast! Anyone that's planned one before knows it takes time to figure out what projects would be well suited for any given event! There are considerations like how easy/difficult the projects should be and how much material would be required for the chosen projects - just to name a few!

The sample I'm showing today was created originally for my March 6th fundraising event, but I opted to simplify the card slightly to accommodate to some newer stampers that are coming. Wouldn't want to overwhelm anyone at this event - it's suppose to be FUN after all!!

Anyhow, I love the effects on this card but it did take some additional steps to accomplish and may not be totally visable by my photography. I actually ran some white cardstock through the Big Shot using the 'Perfect Polka Dots' textured impressions folder and then cut out the 'leaves' using the 'Little Leaves' Sizzlits Die. I cut leaves out of both Whisper White and Chocolate Chip cardstock and layered them to create a bit of shadow effect and then popped them up off the impressed White polka dot background.

I was also looking to fill some space above the saying and the 'Sweet Pea Stitched Felt' worked perfectly! The card was a bit too complicated for an event at which there are beginners making 20 full cards - but it does show how easily you can upgrade a more basic card to something with more dynamic effects! Here's a close-up of the card focal point.

Thanks for stopping by today! Be sure to pop by tomorrow for more 'Love Sparkles' samples including a scrapbook page + some love notes!!

Fundraising Update!

The event samples are now finalized, ticket sales are increasing... the excitement for this event is building!
Thanks to all those who've contacted me already to purchase your event ticket, or your take out package! Your support of this event is greatly appreciated! I can't wait for March!!

Without further delay...here are the 4 projects that will be showcased at my March 6th event for St. David. Remember, guests get to make 5 of each of these cards for a total of 20 projects!!

All cards will have the option for you to stamp whatever saying you want! The Old Olive/Chocolate Chip/Bashful Blue card is an example of that where the card in the background is stamped using 'Congratulations' image, while the sample in the front was stamped using the 'Love You Much' image! You'll be able to customize all 20 cards with saying that suit YOUR needs!
Also, there will be material provide to complete the 'insides' of your cards and envelopes so that these projects are completely ready for use when you leave the event!
Ticket Sales
About 1/3 of the event tickets are now spoken for - please contact me as soon as possible if you'd like to participate as I'll be ordering most of the event supplies early this week! Thanks to you ladies, we are well on our way to raising $1000 for our local school kids!

Have a great Sunday everyone *GO CANADA GO*

Spring Fling – A ‘Smart’ Fundraising Event!

I’m thrilled to share some details of a fundraising event I’m holding in early March to raise funds for my son’s elementary school. As part of the fundraising committee on the Parent Council I’ve been involved in a number of fundraising activities within the school & around the community but I wanted to reach out to my amazing Stampin’ Up! family of friends and put on a Spring event that you’ll love, while raising money to get the school their next SMARTBOARD learning tool!

The school currently has 8 projectors, but only 5 Smartboards, so the money raised from this event would go directly to the purchase another! For those unfamiliar with ‘Smartboards’ – they are interactive learning screens for the classroom! They are tremendously effective with the kids…but costly… with each board running around $2,300 for the screen alone!

I hope you’ll consider coming out, making 20 wonderful cards and supporting a great cause!

When: Saturday March 6, 2010
Time: 9am to 12noon

Where: St. David Catholic School in Dorchester (3966 Catherine Street)

What: This will be a card making event like no other! Guests will be treated a wonderful day with friends, making 20 cards (with coordinating envelopes), snacks, prizes and FUN!

Best of all $15 from the sale of each guest ticket will go directly to the school for the purchase of a Smartboard! I can’t think of a better way to raise money for such an important cause – the education of our youth!

Cost: $55 event fee (for either bundle option listed below)

The cost of the event will include your very own stamp set + an ink pad + 20 projects to complete during the event and take home with you!

Well Scripted (either wooden block set or clear block set)
'C' Block for clear block option ONLY
Chocolate Chip Classic Ink Pad

NOTE: If you already have any of these products, you can still participate in the event. You must bring your own products for use during the event and order substitute products of equal value (prior to the event RSVP date). Because this is a fundraiser, there will NOT be any adjustments for substituted products of a lesser value. Thanks for your understanding.

All project material will be pre-cut so that you can enjoy stamping (rather than measuring)! No experience is needed to attend this event.

Please RSVP by Sunday February 21st in order to ensure your stamp set arrives in time for the event. When you reply with your interest to attend, you'll need to indicate what bundle you want as well as any substitutes if applicable.

Option #1 - New Clear Block Bundle
Option #2 - Traditional Wooden Block Bundle

Bring-A-New Friend Draw:
Those that RSVP by Sunday February 21st with a friend who is new to Stampin' Up! or new to myself will be entered into a draw for another FREE stamp set – I will announce 1 winner at the event from this incentive!!

Here's a picture of the stamp set & ink pad you'll get to take home with you. Remember, if you have these items...you can simply substitute for another set/color, or items of equal value!! Click here to look around on my online store.

What was I thinking...

This was another card I made during my free 'playtime' last weekend! I actually had NOT originally ordered this stamp set (called Vintage Vogue) but I'm not really sure what I was thinking when I made that decision!! This set is awesome and I've seen sooo many wonderful & creative projects using it! I'm looking forward to playing with it more this weekend!

Did you know that you can get the NEW clear acrylic blocks as a bundle? Did you know that not only do you get a 10% discount when you order the blocks as a bundle but you'll also get a FREE Sale-A-Bration reward if ordered before March 31st! Perhaps you like the Scallop Trim Punch that's used on this card sample - you can get this item for FREE when you place a qualifying Sale-A-Bration order of $65 before shipping/taxes!

Contact me anytime for more details! lisaburns@rogers.com or hop on over to my online store and order your block bundle now and have it conveniently shipped directly to your front door!

Have a great Friday everyone! The weekend is almost here!

What does 'play-time' mean to me?

It's a great question... I actually get asked this question a lot!

Like many of you, I lead a very full and gratifying life! If I'm not doing 50 things at once, I feel like I'm not being productive *lol* After many years of trying to figure out 'why' I consistently overfill my calendar, I've finally come to realize that I do this BECAUSE I ENJOY IT!

Last weekend however, I managed to find some free time for me, in my craft room (ie not preparing for a class, a club, and event, an order etc) and came up with some new samples!

Here's one of them - I'll share more over the next couple of posts! Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed creating them :o) Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Common Questions About SU! As A Business

Question: Do I have to run an official 'business' if I sign up?

Answer: Yes & No. Yes, you have to sign what's called an Independent Demonstrator Agreement (IDA for short), but that document is really just to ensure you won't be using the SU! name or it's products for purposes outside of company policies. And 'No', in that a large percentage of our demo family would consider themselves 'hobbyists'. I'll define that a bit further in an upcoming post but for now, know that you can join the SU! family / my team simply for the FUN of it! You do not need to hold workshops/classes/clubs or the like in order to take advantage of the Starter Kit value! You can purchase it simply for the deal!!

Question: Do I have to decide if I'm going to be an 'active' demo or a 'hobby' demo when I sign up?

Answer: No. You can certainly change your mind anytime within your active status and go in either the direction of an 'active' or a 'hobby' demo. When you sign up, you don't need to indicate which direction you are leaning.

That said - there are a few advantages to knowing which direction you are planning on taking the opportunity, upon signing up: 1) What you select within your Starter Kit and 2) How quickly you make the choice to join. If you are planning on trying your hand at a business, you might want to stick more closely with the 'suggested' Starter Kit because it has been designed with the 'Active' demo in mind. It will contain coordinating products that enable you to get your kit and start holding classes or workshops within the same week (if you wanted to)!

I would also suggest that if you want to try your hand at the business aspect - that you ACT SOON and contact me to work out the details of joining my team.

The reason why... there is NO BETTER time to join the family than during the famous Sale-A-Bration promotion! Not only do YOU get rewarded for signing up, but the opportunity to book a few starter workshops is really good right now because of the amazing customer benefits SU! is offering! Jan/Feb/Mar are historically months where people enjoy their 'indoor' activities and are more inclined to try something new ...like stamping, or book something fun indoors with their friends/family!

Question: What's in the Starter Kit and what do I get for signing up during Sale-A-Bration?

Answer: A lot! Hopefully you're sitting down for this answer...

Sale-A-Bration Benefits for New Demo's - It's a good one! You'll not only get the Starter Kit for 15% off, but you'll also get to pick ANY stamp set valued up to $63.95 from the current catalogues as a FREE gift for joining!! This is a great time to join my team!!

Standard Starter Kit

Regular Price $269
SAB Sale Price $225 (Kit contents valued at $400 SU! product + Business Supplies)!!

Digital+ Starter Kit

Regular Price $239
SAB Sale Price $199 (Kit contents valued at $385 + Business Supplies)!!

There is NO SHIPPING charge ever for the Starter Kit and there is only 1 tax charged (8% PST) vs 13% when GST is added in. In addition to the amazing selections below, new team members signing up during SAB will also get to select 1 FREE STAMP SET of their choice from any of the current catalogues (valued up to $63.95). This is the first time SU! has combined a kit discount + a free stamp set! Amazing!

Here's a summary of what you'll get in the Standard Starter Kit or click here for more info on the Digital+ Starter Kit!

  • 5 Stamp Sets (option to customize the sets)
  • 5 Classic Ink Pads (option to customize colors)

I'll be back again soon with some helpful information on the difference between an 'Active' demo vs a 'Hobby' demo! Hope you enjoyed today's information session!

What Would You Do With Some Extra Cash?

I'm sure your list is as long as mine *lol*

What if I told you that you could earn that extra cash by doing something you love to do anyway?

Might seem to-good-to-be true, but it is something quite attainable. I would consider myself and a number of other Stampin' Up! demonstrators true testiments! Of course, the harder you work at something, the more it rewards you. This is certainly true of Stampin' Up! as a home business!

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to focus some different posts on information about Stampin' Up! Information about the many different ways you can customize an opportunity to join SU! while making it work for YOU and your family! I will also spend some time breaking down the benefits of being a part of this amazing family of talented demonstrators and/or my team! I hope you find this information helpful!

If you have any questions from my posts, you can certainly leave a comment on this blog and I can answer publically. If you would rather ask a question privately, feel free to email me anytime at lisaburns@rogers.com

Have a wonderful week everyone!! February is here!!
