Where O' Where Has Lisa Been?

It's been kind of a downer week! Monday morning at work, I began to feel a bit of a tickle in my throat and chalked it up to allergy season. By the end of the work day Monday I had a full blown cold. By Wednesday, the cold found itself into my chest - GAME OVER for anyone with asthma! I managed to avoid passing out from low oxygen by overdosing on my reactive inhaler until I got in to see my family Doctor today! She gave me a dose of a steroid inhaler right in her office and monitored my oxygen levels to ensure it was coming back up! If it hadn't, I would have been paying a visit to Emerg and likely would have been admitted for a night! Since my levels seemed to improve just with the one dose at her office - she sent me home with the steriod inhaler plus 2 additional prescriptions! I've never had to take one of them 'Prednisone' before for my breathing so I'm interested in any information/opinions my readers might have on that drug. I'm already feeling like I'm on the road to recovery - thank goodness! Pretty hard to care for a 4-year old when I can't walk a flight of stairs, or finish a complete sentence without running out of breath!

So, signing off for now but just wanted to post something quickly to let you all know that I am here, and hope to have more FUN stuff to chat about in my next post :o)

This 6x6 scrapbooking sample was one that I created for a workshop last year (remember this one Angie ?)

Got My Winter Pre-Order!

It's been a nice quiet night of unpacking my Winter Mini pre-order and assembling my new sets. Well - that didn't take long did it! Since my holiday stamp sets were all die-cut (pre-cut) I spent less time preparing my stamps and more time STAMPING!

What an awesome treat to have all the stamp sets in the Winter mini (which by the way includes fall & halloween too) pre-cut for us. I actually assembled my stamp sets while on the phone with a friend tonight - no concentration needed!

So, since I had some extra time tonight I made a few holiday cards with Merry & Bright. What a cute little set. This one will be popular I'm sure - so easy to use!

Penny, if you're out there... we may be making one of these at your party Monday night - sorry to ruin the surprise :o)

One Of My Favorite ...

After our club night last night and after getting Evan to bed... I had some time to look back on some of my scrapbooking pages. I would encourage everyone to do this from time to time - it is so much FUN and it really makes me glad that I've invested some time into preserving our life memories!

This is one of my favorite pages of Evan - so simple but I love the pics so I like the fact the 'layout' doesn't distract from how cute Evan looked on the swings. This was a trip to Springbank Park with Evan's little friend Lucas (and Lucas' Mommy Christine)! This was Evan's first time on a swing (outside that is) and his expression in the picture just above 'My Boy' is my favorite! He's right in the moment - just where we want them to be eh!

Tough to see in the one picture above, but I used Lovely As A Tree (all-time most versatile set ever!) to make some very subtle trees beneath the handmade swing.

Stamps: Lovely As A Tree, Wonderful Words, Pure & Simple Alpha Upper (retired)
Cardstock: Night Of Navy, Ballet Blue, Chocolate Chip (for the swing)
Ink: Versamark, Night Of Navy
Accessories: Natural Hemp

Almost 500 hits! BLOG CANDY - Who's out there?

Hi There!

I seem to learn something new everyday about 'blogging' and although I'm not really sure if I'm doing things the way they are intended all of the time - I'm having a blast with this form of communication! That said, the whole point of the Blog is to reach out and extend my communication beyond the traditional email distribution lists so in honour of almost reaching '500' hits on my Blog, I'd like to offer some Blog Candy as a thank you to those that have been checking in each day/week for a glimpse into my Stampin' World.

So, here's how I think Blog Candy works...

While checking out my Blog, leave me a comment. It can be on this post, or about any posts you've seen thus far. Tell me what you've liked, or perhaps hints on what you'd like to see more of in future posts. I will take the names of all bloggers who leave me a comment and randomly draw for gift to be sent to you in the mail. FUN EH!!??

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop on by AND for helping me get a terrific start to my Blogging career :o)

Off-the-stamping-topic, I wanted to share a picture of a great 'shopping find' this weekend while we were visiting St. Jacob's. I love wall art! So, for those of you that know me... I love PartyLite (actually having yet another home show on August 23rd) and they sell something like these. Sorry Christine if you're seeing this but I found these little guys for less than $10 each. Wow! Don't worry though, I'm sure I'll spend just as much $$ on wax this time around as I get ready for Fall/Winter entertaining!

Have a good one everyone!

Versatile 12x12 Scrapbooking Layouts - Tutorial

Happy Holiday Monday Everyone!

Thought I would focus my first tutorial on scrapbooking layouts as it seems to be one of the more challenging aspects of scrapbooking. So many of my customers tell me that they struggle with layouts - particularly with 12x12 albums because there is so much space to fill. These 2 examples provide a simple example of similar layouts but with an entirely different feel to each.

Let's start with the Baroque page - one of the fastest layouts I personally have ever come up with. Truthfully, I used part of the designer paper (Brocade Background) page for my Sympathy cards so I was just looking to use up the other 1/2 of the paper and it was 12 inches length-wise so I popped it on some 12x12 Always Artichoke cardstock (desiger paper on the left of the page). Just before doing that, I wanted to try out my new Jumbo Eyelets so I used the end of one of the papers natural swirls to do that! Added some ribbon (beige & brown), and 3 sections for photos on the right. That's it!

The second layout follows the exact same pattern but change up the colours and add some extra embellishments and viola - another page completed! I wanted to create a more dramatic title on this page so I used Stampin' Dimensions to pop out 2 of the letters (the M & the R). I left a bit of space on the Very Vanilla for either journalling or a photo, followed by a bit of a 'summery' theme & saying at the bottom. Added the ribbon (beige & blue) and again 3 sections for photos to the right. I spend some extra time cutting out some butterflies and popping them out on the page for more dimension.

Scrapbooking is all about what works for you - like the first page illustrates you can go simple and still achieve the look you are going for. Or, like the second page illustrates, you add more detail to enhance any page!

Hope you like it - let me know what questions you have - or what you think!

Masculine Sympathy

Wow - this was harder than I anticipated. I needed to make not 1, but 2 Sympathy cards tonight - both for men who've recently lost their Father's... Sympathy cards are always challenging to begin with - finding the right style, with appropriate sayings etc - but I found making masculine cards even tougher.

This is what I ended up with - hope this helps all those out there that may unfortunately need this type of creative assistance in the future. Hopefully you won't!

Stamps - Warmest Regards
Cardstock - Baroque Designer Paper, Always Artichoke, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, River Rock
Ink - Always Artichoke
Accessories - Choc Chip Grosgrain, Stampin' Dimensionals

The 2nd picture shows the inside of the card. I found that I didn't have anything appropriate for this particular card so I created the saying on the inside myself and printed it out in color to match the card! TFL!

Scrappin' Some Campin'...

For those of you that are outdoor-sy type people, you'll appreciate the hundreds of pictures I have of my family doing pretty much nothing during our camping trips! I guess to my 4 year old, catching SNAILs wouldn't be considered nothing though eh! Anyhow, thought I would share my latest double-page layout of our camping trip to Selkirk in the Niagara area.

Until recently, I haven't been able to do much journalling using my Just Journalling CD from Stampin' Up! as we didn't have a working printer so I was especially thrilled to break in our new printer to complete these pages! I decided to try journalling on vellum cardstock and it worked perfectly!

Here's the recipe info for these pages:
Stamps - Roughing It (retired), the snail is from the Bugs & Kisses set
Cardstock - River Rock, Night Of Navy & Garden Green textured cardstock, Vellum
Ink - Craft Garden Green; Night Of Navy; Close To Cocoa
Accessories - Brads, Dimensionals

Thanks for looking!

Here are 2 very quick cards I recently made up using this set and the same color combinations of Soft Sky, Old Olive and Purely Pomegrante (whispering white and basic black are the neutral colors used). I got the inspiration from the first card from the Fall/Winter Collection (page xx) and the second card was a result of just playing around. I think I would change the color combination a bit on this one as I think it would look at bit better mounted on Purely Pomegrante instead of Old Olive...but still a quick & easy card when you need one :o)

I may have more posts tonite - so check back if you can! I was able to leave work (my day job :o) a bit early today so I have a bit of extra stampin' time tonite!!

More Baroque Motif

As promised, here are the card samples we made at the Baroque Motif Preorder class Wednesday night.

Keep it simple... I got the inspiration for this card from my upline Alicia! I'm always excited to find new & simple ideas of cards b/c so many of us need cards in a pinch. I added a bit of black gingham ribbon to this card for a bit of extra something!

'KIND' of pretty... I loved this color combination when I first saw a similar sample on splitcoast! It also allowed me to use my new 'En Francais' background stamp and Crop-A-Dile!

Baroque Motif Preorder Workshop Samples

Thank you to Penny & Kim for coming out tonite to the Baroque Motif preorder class. We were a small, but mighty group tonite! Hope you gals had as much fun as I did!

Happy Birthday tomorrow PENNY!!

Here are 2 of the projects we made tonite - I thought I would post the 3D projects tonight and the cards tomorrow night. Enjoy!

Bag - I was shown this bag at our Quarterly Demo meeting a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it! Thanks Heather S for the inspiration and demonstration! Have to admit though that my first attempt at the bag didn't come easily :o) A perfect example of a project that gets easier with practise!

Baroque Trifold Card
Another project demo'd at one of my Quarterly Meetings back in April! I had been meaning to try the trifold for some time now - my preorder class was a perfect opportunity! I used the coordinating Baroque Designer Paper for the front of the card. Enjoy!

Here's the trifold card opened up. You could put a message on the inside, or perhaps a photo to give away to a loved one!
